First Five Meetings are Open to all!

I have information to get out about First 5 at the Springfield Art Museum.

The schedule for the next three first 5 meetings at the Springfield Art Museum on the following dates:

Saturday, Dec. 6 10:00-11:30
Saturday, Jan. 3 10:00-11:30
Saturday, Feb. 7 10:00-11:30 On the 7th of Feb. at 11:00 there will be a special ART TALK sponsored by the Art Museum. The featured artist will be Mark Cowardin titled 4X4 Show Sculpture. The theme is the Human Impact on the Environment. This will be an option for those who attend that First 5 collaboration.

Whether you are new to teaching or seasoned we encourage you to join D10’s First Five meetings!

Knob Noster Oct 3rd and 4th…SDATA Oct 11th!

EEEKK! Looks like the school year is in full swing and I look forward to seeing everyone at MAEA Fall Conference this weekend in Knob Noster. D10 is also gearing up as Southwest District Art Teacher’s Association is hosting it’s K-6 Fall Show Oct. 11th. Wow, been a while!

flierWhere has the summer gone! I can’t believe it’s already time to start thinking about the next school year and MAEA Fall Conference! Where have I been all summer…well  I’ve begun a new adventure in my art career…business owner. I recently opened an art studio in Nixa, Missouri called Art Zone. Art Zone offers classes for adults to children. With several of my fellow art teachers, Art Zone is able to offer classes covering multiple mediums. From acrylic painting to watercolor….paper mache to plaster….we can do it all. Check out our current offerings on www.artzonenixa.com. Airport Show Press Release

MAEAThe Future of Art is Bright!

Schools from across Southwest Missouri have sent work to display in “The Future of Art is Bright!” at the Springfield Regional Airport. Students are showing that art education is strong and active in Southwest Missouri and will continue to foster young artists of the future. School’s participating are also part of Missouri Art Education Association whose core mission is  to locally, regionally, and nationally promote, preserve, and perpetuate visual art education in Missouri. Come and see just how bright the future is!

There will be no formal reception, the show will be on display March 31st – May 9th.

Airport show…any more!!

I have about 40 boards to fill for this show….so far I have work from myself…you are surprised by this right! I also have work from Stephanie Brown, Cyndi Shepard, Jessica White, Laura Swearngin, Niki Lemon and Glad Eyerman….14 pieces….AAAAAA….gulp…please tell me you have work on its way. If not tell me if I can get some from you. I am dropping the boards off ready to be hung Saturday evening. I can pick work up Friday evening if you have some ready. Please let me know if you have already mailed yours so I know it’s on its way. Procedures to send work:

ENTRY Requirements and Procedures: PLEASE READ CAREFULLY

1. MAEA MEMBERS are allowed 2 student entries each. All work must be 2-D.

2. Entries must be in my hand by March 15th.

3. Artwork must be no larger than 18 x 24 inches, including white mat.
– WHITE MAT or MOUNT ONLY. No colors please. Inner mat or mount may be colored.

4. Attach LOOP VELCRO (rough part only!) –preferably INDUSTRIAL STRENGTH to all four corners of piece.  If using regular sticky back loop Velcro, please use more than four small pieces.

5. Protect smudgeables. (Spray well or cover with acetate)

Inventory Information:
Please TYPE artwork information below. Make two copies, one for the back of the artwork and
one for inventory
. Cut and tape one copy securely to back of artwork. Enclose the second copy (for inventory) in with the postage. Do Not Put Labels the Front of the Work. All labels on the back. I will make labels for the front.

Spring Conference 2014 Success!

Wow, what a great time we had in Jeff City for the 2014 Spring Conference! D10 was there in numbers and had multiple reasons to celebrate. 1899726_698889490149969_2054044635_oTina Hyde was awarded the Missouri Secondary Art Educator 2014. Along with teaching at Marshfield HS, Tina has worked tirelessly on the Show-Me Arts Magazine and served as SDATA president. Tina will be adding MAEA President-Elect to her list of accomplishments for the 2014-16 term!

Kim Pearcy of Joel E Barbar beamed as one of her students achieved the Governor’s Choice Award at Youth Art Month celebrations. Kim also had several students place in the Student Competition during the MAEA Spring Conference! 1052210_698860060152912_1008127241_oGREAT JOB!

Make sure and find your QR code on pg 13 of your Spring Conference packet to fill out the conference survey and receive a link to the conference lesson plans. This link will only be active until March 25th!!

Mark your calendars for SDATA Spring Show April 5th. Knob Noster Oct 3/4. Spring Conference 2015 April 9th-12 Kansas City, Nelson Atkins!

D10 Airport Show & What’s Happening!

Just let me know. Also I have some great news from D10 members but have room for more info in you would like to share what you are doing reply to this post or send me your information at maead10@gmail.com.

I am also working on a scrapbook of Youth Art Month activities. This is open to all MAEA members. Please feel free to tell me what your school has done this year or in past year’s to celebrate YAM. Include pictures when possible.

AAAaaa, D10 Show at Springfield Airport!!

It has become tradition to hold an annual District 10 art show at the Creamery Arts Center, but unfortunately we were unable to find an opening this year, but have no fear we have a D10 show now scheduled for the Springfield Regionalstress Airport….problem is we need your work by March 15th!! That is in my hand by March 15th.

The show will be hung the week of the 16th and remain up until the end of April. PLEASE SEND WORK!

All the requirements are the same as in the past except the shows location. I will get more info concerning the shows actual opening but for now let’s get work gathered. I can pick it up if you are near the Springfield area or you can mail it Att: Catherine Russell Clever Elemiddle 103 S Public Ave, Clever Mo 65631

– 2 student work of art per MAEA member.
Return address label. (Your name and address on a paper we can use to return the work.)
Return postage: Stamps only! DO NOT use a postage meter for return postage or the USPS will not        deliver.

7. Take package and tape to Post Office

-Weigh for return postage,

    -Place inventory and stamps in an envelope inside    the package.
-Place appropriate postage on the outside.

8. Mail to:  Att: Catherine Russell  Clever Elemiddle

              103 S Public Ave, Clever Mo 65631
